BOWDA Luncheon

Hamish Weatherly of BGC Engineering will give us "An Overview of Mountain Creek Hazard Mitigation." BGC Engineering has been contracted by the Town to review the hazard of flooding and debris flow in mountain creeks, assess the risk of development in the alluvial fans, and then to determine how to mitigate those risks. Nine mountain creeks flow through development in Canmore into the Bow River. These creeks are dry for most of the year, but are prone to flash flooding and can carry significant amounts of debris into the alluvial fans. Development in the alluvial fans creates risk to people and property, as we have seen in 2012 and 2013. Jakob will provide an overview of the progress of the studies to date, and some of the potential mitigations that should be considered.
