BOWDA Lunch Oct 11, 2018
The Future of Transportation with Ryan Martinson, Stantec Consulting.
How we move within cities and towns is constantly evolving. For decades the focus of transportation has been the vehicle. However there are many changes occuring that impact how we move within our community. Ryan will discuss the changes that we are seeing and focus on Complete Streets, Active Transportation Trends and Technology possibilities in the future. We are already seeing these trends in Canmore with the Spring Creek Drive complete street project, which is being expanded throughout Spring Creek. The Town of Canmore has adopted a transportation plan that will be encouraging more active modes of transportation including biking and walking. Roam transit in Banff and Canmore has had a significant impact on how we move between the two communities. But this is the tip of the iceberg...there are more technology changes in the future that will continue to impact transportation in the Bow Valley.
Ryan Martinson is a leader in the Active and Sustainable Transportation field and his passion for his work is made clear to clients and stakeholders he works with. Based out of Stantec’s Calgary office, Ryan has been involved with numerous game-changing transportation projects; all with the goal of creating stronger communities and better cities for people to enjoy life. Examples of projects include the City of Edmonton’s Complete Streets Guidelines, City of Calgary Centre City Cycle Track Network Planning and Implementation, Walkability Technical Reports, Safe Journey’s to School, Complete Street retrofit projects, and numerous concept designs and planning studies.
